This week’s issue is about something that sounds simple but can completely change the way you photograph: working the subject instead of settling for the first decent frame.
Using a covered bridge as an example, I explore what happens when you keep moving, changing your position, adjusting your framing, and paying attention to how foreground, background, and visual path affect the photograph.
The goal is not to take more pictures just for the sake of taking more pictures. It is to keep looking until the photograph becomes clearer.

Instead of showing up, taking the obvious photograph, and moving on, you’ll choose one subject and really work it. Change your position. Move closer. Step farther back. Try a different focal length. Look for foreground elements. Pay attention to what helps the photograph and what gets in the way.
